Content Creators’ STEM Toolkit

“If women and girls don’t see themselves on screen as STEM professionals, they’re less likely to pursue those career paths.”

-Geena Davis

As a content creator, you have the power to change lives by promoting storylines that elevate the voices of those who are often unheard. Research conducted by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media (GDIGM) finds that women and people of color are often underrepresented in media, and shown in stereotypical ways. These portrayals limit the aspirations of young viewers.

In the U.S., only 24% of professionals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are women. Increasing media depictions of women in STEM encourages more girls and women to pursue STEM jobs in the real world. You hold the key to inspiring future visionaries and innovators. The purpose of this toolkit is to help you create media that encourages girls to imagine a world of STEM possibilities.
