Influencer Event – Prayers for the Stolen, Live Virtual Q&A
Monday, January 24, 2022
On January 24th, we held a live Q&A online with Director Tatiana Huezo and Novelist Jennifer Clement where we discussed Mexico’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards® PRAYERS FOR THE STOLEN.
PRAYERS FOR THE STOLEN is currently streaming on Netflix.
“An exquisite and haunting film. Tatiana Huezo shines a light on the excruciating circumstances in which some girls have to grow up in Mexico and the pain of their mothers and families, who are left powerless in the face of injustice and the violation of dignity. Even though it is a disheartening subject matter it doesn’t let us forget for a second the beauty of Mexico and our communities. Filmed brilliantly by Dariela Ludlow and filled with unforgettable performances supported by impeccable production design, sound design, and music – it makes me so proud of the talent from my country and that this director gifted us a film that feels handmade.” – Salma Hayek

SYNOPSIS:
In a solitary town nestled in the Mexican mountains, the girls wear boyish haircuts and have hiding places underground. Ana and her two best friends take over the houses of those who have fled and dress up as women when no one is watching. In their own impenetrable universe, magic and joy abound; meanwhile, their mothers train them to flee from those who turn them into slaves or ghosts. But one day, one of the girls doesn’t make it to her hideout in time. Liberally adapted from Jennifer Clements eponymous 2014 novel.
