Larissa Terán (she/her), Ph.D. is a Lead Media Researcher at the Institute. Larissa is a social scientist who primarily specializes in quantitative research methods. She earned her PhD in Communication from the University of Arizona, where her dissertation explored the content and effects of cognitively inconsistent messages of sexualization in the media. With a developmental focus, Larissa conducts research on the intersection between media consumption, gender, sexuality, and how they relate to young peoples’ behaviors and ideologies. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies. Her work has been published in several top-tier research journals, including Journal of Children and Media, Sex Roles, and Mass Communication and Society.
