This year award winning actor Isabella Gomez can be seen starring in HBO Max’s comedy series, “Head of the Class.” A reboot of the popular 1980’s sitcom, “Head of the Class” follows a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge; first time teacher Alicia Adams (Gomez). In this whip-smart and funny role, Gomez shines as the blunt high school teacher everyone wished they had. “Head of the Class” is slated to premiere October 2021.

Gomez may be best known for her award winning role as Elena Álvarez in the critically acclaimed series “One Day at a Time.” The show debuted on Netflix in 2017, and followed three generations of a Cuban-American family living under the same roof. Critics and audiences alike were instantly drawn to the comedy, being called “clever on every level” by IndieWire, “thought-provoking” by TVLine, “amazing performances, incredible writing, and genuine dialogue” by AwardsCircuit, and “compulsively watchable” by The Daily Beast.

Over the years, Gomez has garnered a handful of award wins and nominations for her work on “One Day at a Time” including Best Supporting Actress at the Imagen Awards (2017-WIN, 2018, 2019). “One Day at a Time” has also received dozens of accolades: Best Primetime Television Program – Comedy at the Imagen Awards winning in 2017, 2018, and 2019, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy at the Television Critics Association Awards in 2018, Favorite Revival Show at the People’s Choice Awards in 2018, Outstanding Comedy Series at the GLAAD Media Awards in 2018, Choice TV Show: Comedy at the Teen Choice Awards in 2019, and Best Comedy Series at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards in 2019.

On the film front Gomez was recently seen starring as Kylie in Shatterproof Films’ horror mystery “Initiaton.” She also lends her voice to Disney Channel’s animated show, “Big Hero 6: The Series.” Additional credits include: Netflix’s “A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish,” ABC’s “Modern Family,” and Disney Channel’s “Star vs. the Forces of Evil.”

Born in Medellin, Colombia, Gomez got her start in the entertainment industry at just six years old. By the time she was ten, her family relocated to Florida where she began formal acting training and working in commercials. Gomez landed her first television role as Cristina Sandoval on El Rey’s “Matador” (2014), moved to Los Angeles with her family in 2015 and has been working ever since.

When she isn’t on set, you can find Gomez kickboxing, hiking, traveling, watching documentaries, and she has a vice for reality television. On the charity front, Gomez is actively involved with the World Wildlife Fund: WWF and the Wild Elements Foundation where she serves as a Wild Advocate. Through her partnership with Wild Elements, she was matched with an innovator, Rosamira Guillen, who is the executive director at Proyecto Tití in Colombia.

Gomez currently resides in the Los Angeles area.
