Guess Who’s My Favorite?

Have fun watching the Guess Who? videos with your children. After you have watched them all go through the following lesson with them.

Ask your child to pick a favorite career –– female judge, female mathematician, male nurse, female professor, female soldier, female pilot, female firefighter, female geneticist, female racecar driver, female mayor, female baker, female dog breeder.

Ask your child to tell you why they picked this as the favorite.

Do an internet search with your child to find someone else who does this job and is this gender.  Ideally, find someone in your community – but anywhere is fine.

Learn more about the job.
What tools or equipment are needed to do this job?
Where is this job performed?
When is this job performed?

Ask your child to imagine themselves in this job. They can draw a picture of themselves doing the job or pretending to do the job in a make-believe world they create. Submit your child’s drawing to our See Jane Lesson Gallery for posting on the website.

Can Anyone Do This Job?

Have fun watching the Guess Who? videos with your children. After you have watched them all go through the following lesson with them.

Ask your child to think of other jobs that you would be surprised to see being done by a woman or a man?

Create a list of these jobs.

When you do this, ask your child to think of:

Job that sounds interesting that you have never seen being done by
A woman (if you are a girl)
A man (if you are a boy)

Do an internet search with your child to see if you can find someone who does this job and is this gender.

Were you able to find someone?

If yes, ask your child if this persons him or her to consider doing this job one day?  How?

If no, do you think that it is possible for a woman or a man to do this job, even though you have not been able to find one who has?  Why?
